Proposed Start and Dismissal Times

The School District of Indian River County is considering adjustments to school start and dismissal times for the 2026–2027 school year. These potential changes are designed to enhance student learning experiences, improve operational efficiency, and better align school schedules with the needs of students, families, and staff.

Key considerations for the proposed schedule adjustments include:

Aligning middle schools and K–8 schools to expand access to after-school athletics, enrichment, and student programming.

Adjusting the high school start time to 7:20 a.m., offering a more balanced morning schedule than the current 7:05 a.m., while still allowing early dismissal to support after-school employment, extracurricular activities, and sibling care responsibilities.

The District is in the information-gathering phase and values input from both staff and families. Your feedback is critical to ensuring that any changes reflect the perspectives and needs of the school community.
